wrong, wrong, wrong

I saw this making the rounds on Pinterest. It makes me so angry. This is what some people are teaching our girls – that they are merely pretty things to look at and be possessed by a man.

A girl should not be like a butterfly, all fragile and delicate – a thing of fleeting beauty that fades quickly than loses it only worth.

And what about the other side that implies that a girl who isn’t a butterfly is ugly and easy?

A girl should be witty, smart, and self-confident. She should know what she wants and not be afraid to go for it. She should be strong. Fierce. She should be valued for more than her beauty. She should be taught what is true beauty: a kind heart, a smart brain, and a sense of self-worth.

Please, let’s stop with the glorification of pretty. Our girls deserve more than that.
